Resort boom ruined Negril

THE EDITOR, Sir:
As an ex-Mandeville resident who used to delight in the broad swathe of vacant beach that was Negril in 1967-8, and the solitary lobster shack, perhaps the caption for the photo accompanying the article 'The Negril breakwater controversy' (Gleaner, March 29, 2016) should have read: "Tourists walk along a badly developed, resort-encroached beach at Negril."
I suppose the delights of Treasure Beach have been trampled as well.
I am currently in Kiribati, doing coastal protection and seawalls. And, with any luck, a new 'Pattern of Islands'.
My regards to any survivors at the Mandeville Country Club or the Polo Club, who remember, Chris and Patti Brown.
