Save legendary Cornwall Regional!
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The Cornwall Regional Hospital and their dynamic team made the greatest health intervention that saved my mother's life in 1983. When she made the final transition, I was able to return to Cornwall Regional and in five minutes her file could be located.
My mother was a soldier with the Royal Army Corps, so she had documented her file number in her address book. I was allowed to request a copy of the file at minimal cost, and the protocol of a kind, closing discussion with the chief executive officer, Dr Fray, was held. This was great closure and exemplifies the role of healthcare for the dying and to family members.
I can never thank this hospital enough for its great service. For me, the Cornwall Regional Hospital still has the answers for Jamaica. There so many young and old practitioners there willing to fight to save the life of an ordinary Jamaican like myself.
FIRST-CLASS CARE
My family has benefited from expert surgeons, obstetrics, gynaecology, dentistry and cardiology, and other expertise for decades.
Cornwall Regional must be rebuilt to continue to provide first-class, internationally rated care. I call on the World Health Organization, the Red Cross, St Johns Ambulance to deploy emergency health teams to Jamaica.
This is a crisis more profound than an earthquake. All our public facilities could really be nested in precarious positions. This is the answer: health before wealth!
