Crime solutions are self-evident

THE EDITOR, Sir:
What's most astonishing about the crime problem is that the solutions are contained in the diagnosis of the problems. Cops are under-resourced? Don't spend so much scarce public funds on luxury rides for public officials.
There are criminal elements at the highest levels of the political establishment? Arrest them, prosecute them and dismantle their networks.
There are known manned and unmanned ports of entry for illegal guns? Close them off forthwith.
These are the short-term solutions that could have an immediate impact. In the long term, the society will need to provide education, jobs, and opportunities for its people to live productive lives.
