Traditional media failing
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It is with great disappointment that I highlight a recent unpardonable error.
A recent news item on TV had a title reading 'Acting kernel of the maroon', and not colonel. The average GSAT student would not have made this mistake. In addition, listening to a radio programme one evening, I heard two different programmes being transmitted at the same time on one station. Utter confusion.
Dervan Malcolm of Power 106 is always repeating the mantra: "Pay attention." Media, please pay attention to detail. Observe the BBC. Start time is important, and they count down by the second. Time is money.
On weekends, radio and television are found wanting. News slots are limited, content is low, and music would 'kill' you. The exceptions are Nationwide and NCU on Saturdays and RJR on Sundays with Ralston McKenzie's 'Sunday Contact' being the crÈme de la crÈme.
My suggestion: Media houses and institutions of learning ought to form an alliance. Have workstudy/internships for students to work on weekends. It's a win-win. Students get the experience and the media will reflect improved content and value.
