Don't jump to conclusions in Petrojam buzz

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I note with concern and interest the matters that seem to be slowly consuming public discourse. Although I wish I was talking about the FIFA World Cup 2018, I'm actually referring to the Petrojam affair. This was mismanaged from the start, plagued with poor communications and deliberate misinformation from both sides of the aisle in Gordon House. It finally seems that we have some steady hands steering the ship.

It would seem, from all indications, that the prime minister has finally stepped into the fray and assumed the reins. He addressed Parliament and explained his and the Cabinet's positions. He expressed the need for due process to prevail.

The problem is, we have been overtaken by the social-media effect, where we have now come to believe that every single piece of information we hear must be acted upon immediately. This, my friends, is a false notion.

My recommendation is, listen to the PM. An investigation will be carried out by a variety of investigative bodies. So can we all just relax and let the relevant entities handle the probe?

Let the prime minister's steady hands continue to steer the ship.
