God is purely imaginary
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I'd like to congratulate your columnist Dr Michael Abrahams on a well-written article ('Why the Bible is a dangerous book') published in your online edition of July 2, 2018. The content is spot on!
The sooner we realise that the Bible is merely a reflection of men's thoughts and ideas of God through different eras, the better it will be for all of us.
Only ignoramuses and those electing to live in a state of cognitive dissonance would believe that the Bible could ever be a representation of a righteous, all-knowing God - replete as it is with so much internal contradiction, historical inaccuracy, and outright fabrication, not to mention endorsements of outright cruelty and plain immorality.
Ironically, when Paul wrote suggesting that all scripture is given by inspiration from God, he was referring to what Christians call Old Testament, which already was a closed canon. The mention has nothing whatsoever to do with the New Testament, which did not exist until the Roman Church compiled it decades later, from Paul's and anonymous writings that suited its agenda of control.
Put any number of religious believers to earnestly seek God's advice on any matter individually and I guarantee they will emerge with as many different and conflicting answers, ostensibly from God. You see, they'd be nothing more than their own ideas, because in the final analysis, God is purely imaginary.
