Crime scaring away diaspora
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I just to listened to an interview given by Jamaican economist Dr Andre Haughton, in which he spoke specifically of foreign exchange, the national debt, and other fiscal matters.
But I am so surprised he said nothing about the crime situation that is preventing many Jamaican baby boomers with disposable income who would love to retire and resettle in Jamaica, or at least have a second residency which they can visit at leisure.
My wife and I, we are well-to-do. We worked hard, raised five children and are now retired. We would like to resettle in Jamaica, but the crime situation frightens us. Until we see the Government doing something positive, taking steps to enforce the rule of law, I and others will have to look elsewhere or just stay put.
