NIDS would have stopped RIU rapist

Published:Tuesday | October 2, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Here's a glaring example of why NIDS (National Identification System) is desperately needed in Jamaica. The alleged RIU rapist was wanted in Mandeville as a person of interest.

Had there been a centralised national database, the Mandeville police could have uploaded the alleged criminal's background, and one simple check, in seconds, would have given the RIU management the information they needed not only to forgo hiring this guy, but to assist in apprehending and remanding him.

Why the hell doesn't the Jamaican Government fast-track this thing? And Jamaican people, please stop fighting this thing.

NIDS now, Government! Here's an opportunity to promote NIDS for a better understanding by the Jamaican people, and NOTHING from the Government.

Government, we need to see more energy and skill from you. You were elected to work on behalf of the Jamaican people. You are not on an extended vacation! Did you hear that, Andrew Holness?
