Outraged by Trump's assault
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was reading a few days ago a report in the Observer about the WW initiative Stop Violence Against Women. I was considering its impact on our culture, which is too often soft towards male aggression.
Then I went on, reading that Donald Trump, president of the United States of America, had mocked Christine Blasey Ford for her statement in front of the Senate. I feel deeply outraged by the fact that a president can laugh with impunity in front of a cheering audience about a possible episode of violence.
Entertaining the crowd with crude comments deprives Mrs Ford of her dignity to be listened and respected. Compassion cannot be even mentioned.
I also find surprising the frightening silence from American women, especially because of their long history of advocacy for their rights.
Does anybody have the right to humiliate and offend to make audience? What does that teach us? Women in Jamaica won't tolerate Trump's statements. We will take a stand!
