Letter of the Day | The planet we deserve

Published:Wednesday | October 31, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The phenomenon of global warming is creating a very uneasy situation for all the people on this planet Earth. It is easy to declare ourselves as citizens of this lovely planet but, are we making the ultimate sacrifice to see a better environment for the citizenry who occupy a space on this beautiful place we live on? We have had some very devastating and horrific flooding, hurricanes and storms in many areas of the Earth, which are caused by the warmer temperatures causing great hardship and intensified poverty. Mankind has been learning the hard way from their improper exploiting of the different resources from the land.

We need to act swiftly to resolve the many unwanted practices which are constantly propelling mankind in an ultimate catastrophe and creating an unstable world. We have to make long-term plans of how to direct our path from this undisciplined way we actually go about creating jobs for all humankind. The planet we deserve is the one we have made as human beings. We have wrecked the planet with pollutants and other misuse of the spaces we occupy. When we have learnt to recognise the many indiscriminate methods we have been using to destroy the planet and work to rectify the situation we will have saved millions and stabilised the world.

In spite of the many challenges we face as mankind, we fail to really rectify the situation with positive, practical, viable influences. We cannot sit back like sitting ducks and watch our planet disintegrate into the abyss of no return. The time is limited but we can still secure a better world if we put hand and hearts together to build a better, safer place. What we deserve is the planet we actually have, and we can change our fate if we try vehemently to exercise proper modus operandi to apprehend the age-old problem in global warming. We must use multilateral and bilateral talks to come to consensus the best practices we choose to pursue.
