Caricel: the more the merrier
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It must come as a huge relief to the principals of Symbiote that the Court of Appeal on Monday handed down a ruling that paves the way for that company, which trades as Caricel, going ahead to challenge an earlier Supreme Court decision.
Indeed, Caricel's telecommunications licence was ordered revoked for what was deemed "failure to comply with all conditions that were attached to its domestic mobile spectrum licence".
Be that as it may, the company now has until January 14, 2019, when it goes to court to again argue its case.
Symbiote has reportedly invested $9 billion in this venture, so there is a lot riding on this outcome.
Not to be forgotten, too, are the scores of Jamaicans employed by this company.
So what of the fate of the thousands of persons who purchased the mobile Wi-Fi service (boxes) offered by Caricel?
Let's hope that an amicable outcome can be arrived at, what with regular letters to this newspaper complaining about some aspects of services offered by other providers.
Consumers stand to benefit from another player on the telecommunications landscape.
