THE EDITOR, Sir:

The following is a letter to the caregivers at the Maxfield Park Children's Home.

The board of directors at the Maxfield Park Children's Home wishes a 'Happy End of Year' to all caregivers on the front line of care and intervention within our child care facility.

A special thank you to all our caregivers who continue to serve the institution with professionalism and integrity. Your continued dedication to the institution and its overall mission is allowing us to meet many of our short- and long-term goals as a facility dedicated solely to protecting and preserving the nation's children.

As we close 2018 and get ready to enter 2019, we acknowledge you, our caregivers, who are currently serving as parents to the more than 100 wards at the home. A parent is not only one who gives birth or who legally adopts children but also, we believe, those who care for and support children in different ways frequently. You have played significant roles in creating a family-oriented environment underscored by respect, love and support for our children. You are unsung heroes within our society! Thank you for being role models to our children who are detached from their families; who are more vulnerable to emotional neglect and developing low self-esteem.

Continue, too, to communicate your needs to the state and private sector so you can be better equipped with the essential tools to execute your tasks.

Have a great End of Year, a Happy New Year, and thank you for caring for the children of the Maxfield Park Children's Home.
