Empowering PWDs through the Government
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The Government of Jamaica has been empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs) since 2008 to do small business and/or to purchase hearing aids, prosthesis, glasses, among other benefits, through the Economic Empowerment and Medical Assistive Aids Grants.
I am a double recipient of the Assistive Aids Grant in 2010 and more recently, in April 2018, to purchase leg braces which had to be custom made and fitted overseas.
I am very grateful for this assistance, otherwise I would not have been able to afford them.
On behalf of all recipients of these grants, I publicly express gratitude to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security for empowering us over these 10 years.
I implore PWDs or their caregivers to get registered or re-register with the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities in order to access these grants, among other assistance and benefits.
