Increase surveillance of problem communities
THE EDITOR, Sir:
According to the Government, some 20 communities are responsible for more than 50 per cent of the violent crimes in Jamaica. So I'm here suggesting that instead of deploying more boots on the ground and social intervention with regard to ZOSOs, why not use spy balloons or drones to monitor these neighbourhoods?
I believe this idea is the most practical and commonsense approach to dramatically curbing homicides in Jamaica now that the states of emergency aren't an option anymore.
Yes, police presence is good, but it's just too expensive. Spy technology ain't just there to get intelligence, but it can be there to stop crime. When criminals see the presence of these balloons or drones over them, they will think twice about what they are doing.
