High praises for JCF and DPP

Published:Tuesday | January 29, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The family of Chevallo Rodney would like to use this medium to express their appreciation for the efforts of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in finally bringing about the conviction of the man who shot and injured our beloved family member.

We live in the USA, away from the inner cities of Portmore and the control of gangs that exist there. However, we felt the pain when Chevallo was shot and maimed and the subsequent change of his life forever.

Chevallo was unfortunately killed after refusing to drop the charges or remain in a relocated area, and returned to the community of Waterford as the years of being a witness wore him down.

NO GAIN

We hope that this conviction will show the gangsters in Jamaica that the death of a witness does not end a court case, and there is no gain in killing witnesses. If this saves the life of one witness, then our loved one did not die in vain.

We hope that the accused man before the court and the fugitive on the run for the murder of Chevallo will also meet their justice.

I would like to thank Officer Madden, Officer McKay, Officer Raphael and prosecutor Hodine Williams for their efforts in ensuring that this man, Kahira Jones, was brought to justice.
