A big ‘boooo’ for Hope Zoo

Published:Wednesday | February 6, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Home is no longer a place of refuge for our children, or families for that matter, if you choose to live in the Hope Pastures community in St Andrew. Not when you are neighbours with Hope Zoo!

It is certainly not a place to raise families with any strong value system. So much for Vision 2030.

This organisation has sunken below the depths of filthiness and shame when on a Sunday afternoon into the late hours of the night, the community is subjected to loud and offensive music. The tunes played on the night of February 3, 2019 were presumably meant for an adult audience but blared through the walls of our homes with explicit sexual content.

Am I to expect that this is our new norm? That not even on a Sunday evening can I enjoy the peace and sanctity of my home as my family prepares for another week of school and work?

EARN AT ALL COSTS

Hope Zoo clearly has an agenda to earn as much money as possible, by any means necessary, at the expense of any person or animal in close proximity. I can’t imagine the stress placed on these poor animals in captivity with the high pitched sounds and nowhere to run.

I urge the relevant authorities to stop issuing permits.

For the house animals in captivity, this is blatant abuse of animals. Are there no restrictions on when and where parties can be held in residential areas?

I am extremely disappointed in the leadership of the zoo, as they are the ones responsible for allowing these events to take place without any apparent restriction. They are no better than the party promoter who has no respect for nearby residents and shows no value for common decency.

Shame on you, Hope Zoo! Booooo.
