Youths aren’t just the future, they’re agents of change
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I find it necessary to remind the nation’s youths that they are more than their social backgrounds and families’ status. Our youths need to be reminded that they are not just the ‘next generation’, but they are precious beings who are capable of accomplishing any and every dream which they so desire.
So much is taking place across the country and the world, but I believe that despite innumerable social issues arising and increasing, our nation’s youths must NOT be neglected. Every day youths are being killed and abused (mentally, emotionally or physically). Many have realistic hopes, dreams and goals; however, because of a lack of proper guidance and mentoring, these hopes, dreams and goals are obliterated.
Jamaica’s youths need more positive role models who are not just dedicated to advocating for these youths, but individuals who are also determined to see each and every Jamaican youth succeed.
As we celebrate Black History Month, I want to remind the youths that as a black person, you are capable of making a difference in your country and the world at large. Never give up, and always work assiduously to accomplish your goals. You aren’t just the future, you’re an agent of change.
