Use CCTV to nab road hogs

THE EDITOR, Sir:

There seems to be a reluctance by the powers that be regarding the coordinated rollout of surveillance cameras across the island.

Recently, while waiting patiently in traffic along Westminster Avenue, eight or nine route taxis, one after the other, zipped shamelessly by. Despite that blatant act of lawbreaking, there was no traffic cop hiding behind a tree or anywhere else to surprise and nab those taxi drivers. There were no surveillance cameras ‘on duty’ to capture the misbehaviour so that the necessary punitive action could be taken by the JCF.

This leaves me to wonder if there is political will to fix crime and lawlessness. There seems to be far more talk than on-the-ground action. Unless lawbreakers are captured and/or punished, the results will continue to be the same.
