Daniel Thwaites is a writer par excellence

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Thanks for making my day with Daniel Thwaites’ Sunday Gleaner column ‘Dis Kari Goh Bring Come’. Even now, when I go back to this article, I remain in stitches!

Daniel Thwaites is a writer par excellence and national advocate of everyone. In his piece on Sunday, November 17, 2019, his interpretation and use of pun signals why Jamaican Creole is vastly superior to any other idiom.

Every angle is encapsulated in “Carry go bring come ...” – the Jamaican proverb; the harried mother running to and fro; medical personnel claiming being given “basket to carry water”; and the public jury concluding the need for CARE and CARING!

In strokes of Daniel, his advocacy defused a serious time bomb with sensible humour! It was really quite good. The “read” was just too juicy, and I could follow even without my glasses.

Congratulations, Daniel! Keep pulling us out of the lion’s den!
