Teachers need to be protected

Published:Saturday | November 23, 2019 | 12:18 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

In regard to the female teacher seen on the recent viral video arguing with a male student, the school board or education ministry cannot do her anything. These students are illiterate and ignorant. The teacher spoke to the boy the way he would and could understand.

It is full time teachers get protection from the Government. Teachers ought to take a zero-tolerance approach to disrespect from students.

The Government needs to employ a teacher as minister of education, not a principal, vice principal or a guidance counsellor, but a teacher who knows what is taking place in the classroom.

Everyone is talking about what the teacher said to the student, but what about how the student spoke to the teacher?

Maybe if the teacher never talk hard to him, she would have got a chair thrown at her.

Jamaica Teachers’ Association, please lobby for teacher security.
