Farmers deserve respect

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I read with great interest of the All-Island Jamaica Cane Farmers Association meeting that was recently held in Clarendon, which was the perfect forum for the cane farmers to voice their grouses. However, none of the elected representatives who were appointed to the Ministry of Agriculture showed up. This is gross disrespect to the farmers.

What is the purpose of having three ministers in the ministry, and none of them saw it fit to go to the meeting. It is even worse when I recently read that members of parliament are clamouring for a pay hike when they don’t deserve it.

All three ministers should pen a written apology to the All-Island Jamaica Cane Farmers Association. Come on, Prime Minister Andrew Holness! The farmers deserve better from your appointees.
