Lack of education leads to chaos
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Ronald Thwaites’ article ‘Self-induced chaos’ published in The Gleaner on Monday, December 16, 2019, about the road situation in Jamaica was right on point.
What does anyone expect when anyone can just go buy a driver’s licence and a car and head on the open road?
These cameras they are planning to set up, I believe, are a waste of money and time.
Someone is benefitting from this, while the chaos will continue, and, as the article rightfully puts it, as long as drivers have money to pay their way out of these situations to corrupted cops. This is the result we will have to live with, until our people are educated, not just on road traffic laws but on the operation of the society as a whole.
Our leaders have, over the years, created this chaos not just on the road but in everything we do because it serves their purpose – starting with the denial of teaching our people to read and write their own language that they speak every day.
I believe that if our people could read and write the language they speak, this chaos probably wouldn’t be this severe, because at least there would be more educated thinkers on our road.
Welcome to capitalism, Mr. Thwaites.
ROBERT
