Reshaping the youth of Jamaica

THE EDITOR, m adam:

As we enter this new year, my hope is that Jamaica will see a significant reduction in its murder rate, increased social order and become a gentler society.

For this to begin, attention must be given to the young. The youth of today have no fear for God or man. Respect for their elders and institutions is sadly lacking.

I truly appreciate the alacrity in which laws are enacted re: single-use plastic bag and styrofoam container ban. My hope is that this zeal be put into banning lewd and violent lyrics being played in public transport.

Recently, while listening to Ms Kitty on Nationwide, she asked a 19-year-old caller to answer the question – what gifts were given to baby Jesus? He painfully tried to give an answer. He said fish, sweetie and biscuit – not gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The host was humoured, flummoxed and sincerely sorry for the caller. She prayed for him. Parents send your children to Sunday/Sabbath school. This religious training helps to develop grounded adults.

In addition, I propose children be part of uniformed groups – instilling discipline. To the educators, start teaching civics from basic school through to high school to create good citizens.
