Clarity needed on what to do after home quarantine

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am not the only one who is confused about what to do after the 14-day quarantine time expires. I recently returned home from the US and I am not pleased with the system after I did my quarantine time.

When I arrived at the airport, a representative gave me a form to fill out every morning and evening for 14 days, and a booklet with the info to download the app from the Government so I can do my daily check-in; there was no more information given. There is a huge gap in the lack of information given to individuals.

On the form I have to log the time, my temperature, if I do the checks myself, if I have any symptoms, and for a health representative to sign. I got notification from the app to do my check-in, which I do about six times a day. During the process, no one called to check up or to inform me what to do after I finish my 14 days. I waited for someone to call after the end of the quarantine period, but to my surprise no one did. I took it upon myself to call the numbers on the form. The first number rang till a message came that the mailbox is not set up and the other five rang without answer. I think those numbers should be answered right around the clock.

DOES NOT MAKE SENSE

I went on the health ministry website and got through to a representative in Kingston who asked me where I am calling from and I said Montego Bay, and she gave me two numbers to call. I got through and expressed my concerns, and to my surprise the only thing I was told was to keep the form for future reference even without the signature from the health department. To me it makes no sense, and then she asked if I want a paper saying that I am COVID-19-free and I did my 14-day quarantine. My credit finished in the middle of the conversation but no one called back to follow up. This comes across as unprofessional, and especially in this time of crisis.

Since I was informed that I don’t need a signature from the health department, I think the Government needs to adjust the app a little to provide us with the documentation that we all need to show that we are COVID-19-free and have completed our quarantine time. The app recognises when we finish our 14 days, so what they need to do now is to send us a code so we can log on and it will take us to the page where the document is stating we are COVID-19-free, and make it so we can put our names and address, if needed, in it. Then we can either print it or send it to our email, and this will save us time and also be cost-effective.
