How does globalisation benefit Jamaicans?
THE EDITOR, Madam:
This is with reference to the Gleaner article by Ambassador Curtis Ward published on October 16, titled ‘From Globalisation To Populism – Part I: State Of The Global Community’. The questions that need to be asked are: how have ordinary Jamaicans benefited from globalisation? Do ordinary Jamaicans trade internationally? Do they produce products which (not sugar or banana) are known internationally? What influence does Jamaica have on anything international?
On populism, politics is perceived to be corrupt in Jamaica to allow ordinary Jamaicans to become an integral part of the political system. My understanding of populism is the political approach that appeals to ordinary, downtrodden citizens of a country whose concerns are ignored by government.
