Readers’ reactions to Michael Abrahams’ ‘You’re gone, where do we go now, Lennie?’ via Gleaner Online

I knew Dr Jackson as a medical student when I taught him at The UWI. I remember him always with a smile on his face. He always looked happy. We were close in age, and one night we ended up at a mutual friend’s home. We had a long conversation then, and he told me he was an engineer but wanted a change of career.

He continued his engineering practice while a student, but this did not prevent him from doing very well in his medical studies. I never met him again after he graduated, but I was truly sad to know he had died of COVID-19. I will always remember his smiling face. My condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and patients.

Excellent tribute. I’ve heard about him, I pray God will continue to comfort his family, patients, friends and associates during what must be a very difficult time. His memory will live on...

My question is where do I go from here. Lennie was my doctor and a friend. We shared music to the point that the songs one heard in his office on his computer were the same music at my home on my computer. I don’t know what other doctor to go to.

I honestly don’t know where to go now; I don’t want another doctor. Dr J was my health sanctuary when no one else was listening; and I need him more so now as I have questions I know he would answer. I just dunno why COVID couldn’t leave him alone man; why him? Solid doc; so inclusive and reassuring. The kind of doc who get why we are called patients.

Still a hard reality to swallow...

I believe you have adequately expressed my feelings and those of many at this moment, those who are still grieving for the loss of Dr Lennie, an excellent doctor. He was not only my doctor but a friend for over 50 years. It is very hard to get over his sudden removal from us. If we feel this way, can you imagine how his family feels at this moment? Condolences to them in this time of grief.

Rest in Peace Lennie and may perpetual light shine upon you.
