Tasks for next US president

THE EDITOR, Madam:

On November 3, the historic United States presidential election took place and they are being regarded by most political pundits as one the most defining moments in the history of the US elections.

Americans have voted on a number of issues – immigration is on the top of most people’s minds with the DACA reforms and the separation of children from their parents.

COVID-19 is another factor which the voters would have taken into account, not to mention the impact of racism on its citizens.

However, from an international standpoint, if Joe Biden becomes the next president, he will have to mend many fences as the US under Donald Trump has adopted a protectionist approach which has angered many countries, including China.

The foreign and economic policies also have to take into consideration the impact of COVID-19. Most countries have been experiencing recession due to COVID-19 pandemic and the economic outlook for these countries, especially those in Europe that are undergoing another series of lockdowns. Moreover, the fact that oil prices have been declining due to decreased demand will also severely impact economies around the world.

But first, the next US president has the task of unifying the country after the election.
