No swearing-in for opposition leader

Published:Thursday | November 12, 2020 | 12:11 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Stories published by The Gleaner on November 10 and November 11, coupled with subsequent social media posts, detail the appointment of the leader of the Opposition as a swearing-in ceremony.

This is cause for concern, as Mark Golding, in accordance with Section 80 (1) of The Jamaica (Constitution) Order in Council 1962, was presented with the instrument of appointment and not sworn in.

The Constitution does not make provisions for any oath to be taken by the leader of the Opposition.
