Talkback Thursday | We don’t need a 15th parish

Published:Thursday | November 12, 2020 | 12:10 AM

THE GOVERNMENT is again considering making Portmore Jamaica’s 15th parish. We asked our followers their thoughts on this move.

I really don’t know what purpose it would serve. Portmore residents have literally been asking for one thing for many years. All we want and all we’ve ever wanted is a hospital. Jus gi wi di hospital nuh. - @Arhazivory

Making it a city with the requisite infrastructure is a better proposition. - @Mikhail48308112

For what possible reason could anyone have to waste time on something like making Portmore a parish. Their mayor and MP don’t even want it. Why take up the extra stress. - @name2785

What are the benefits? Besides adding it to a list of ‘nothing’ accomplishments for a political party, how does it benefit the people of Portmore? - @amun_hotep

Everytime likkle rain fall crocodile show up pon people veranda. Sort out dat first. - @stfuenrique

Why not place that focus on the underdeveloped ones first? - @kiimziie

I don’t think it’s a good time to consider that. If someone can tell me the benefit, I’ll gladly reconsider. - @___.inam876

If it has to do with new development and infrastructure then it would be a shame that in order to get it would have to be named parish. - @ra_vaj

Tell me where the parish capital will be, Naggo Head? - Kaniel Cole

This is one of the reasons why educated feel the need to leave the country. People’s voices not being heard because politicians constantly try to find creative ways to provide jobs for their colleagues. I really hope the PM does not allow Portmore to become a parish. I’ve always been proud to mention that I’m from Portmore, St Catherine. - PG Johnson

I have one issue with that. How can you want to establish another parish but others, such as my home parish, St Thomas, is being overlooked for so many different development - Shena Wallace

I can barely remember the names of the 14 and you want to introduce another? Look, please remember that it’s us parents here teaching these kids during this epidemic. This is just too much pressure. - Rob Black

I agree. Portmore is a city all by itself. It is an integral part of the St Catherine community. - Sandra Elliott

Go improve Portmore than worry bout it being a parish... ppl dem a suffa long line traffick and poor bus system... - Ruedine Ferguson
