Readers’ reactions - Woman dies after receiving third-degree burns in kitchen blast
It is quite alarming to learn that our hospitals are not equipped to handle burn victims of this nature. Not everybody has the resources to fly overseas. I am calling on all parties involved to address this matter. This incident must never repeat itself.

The amount of money to get her the help she needed was daunting, but is anything too difficult for God? The Government needs to invest in a burn unit in at least one hospital in Jamaica, but we cannot blame them for all our problems or expect them to come to the rescue of individuals when we fall on hard times or find ourselves in a crisis – it’s just not fiscally possible. Was there an investigation into why a gas pan exploded? Safety and preventative measures need to be implemented to ensure no one else suffers this fate.

Jamaica needs a burn unit from long time. That’s something we can petition the Government and fellow citizens to get. Jamaicans, this is long overdue.

You all need to take out health insurance now. Pay something. We all need to learn from this. Too many Jamaican has to seek help from overseas.

This is why safety must always be practised. One small mistake cause all of this. So sad. Why don’t we have a burn unit, though!

It’s sad but the public healthcare system is a mess. I waited so long to hear someone speak up on this matter. Girl, I feel your pain.

They can use this tragedy to push and demand for a burn unit to be established at all major hospitals on the island.

• With the amount of money that they want in the US. The average American without healthcare would have died also. It goes back to say to be poor is a crime. My condolences to the family.

Jamaica has no healthcare system. A system requires organisation and there’s none here.

A burn unit is desperately needed. I remembered those six girls who were severely burnt in the fire at the children’s home years ago. Shaggy assists Children’s Hospital, so now Jamaican people can help KPH to get a unit.
