New cement welcomed

THE EDITOR, Madam:

For the past three years, there has been some amount of scarcity in the cement market. My own personal experience, working on a new home in Bounty Hall, Trelawny, has been that I can only get a certain number of bags of cement from the local hardware stores. The last time I tried to get 200 bags, I only got 80 bags with a promise to get the remainder over the next two weeks.

Our local construction industry is booming and shortages like this can only stifle development.

I am very pleased to hear that a new player will now be able to bring in some 50,000 tonnes of cement, because we certainly need it!

I hope that this will ease the burden of shortages and scarcity. I know that the local cement producer is working to expand but till then we cannot defer our plans to develop and build.

I look forward to getting some of this new cement from Growth Tech and say thanks to the minister for making this happen.
