Corporate Jamaica can donate garbage trucks

THE EDITOR, Madam:

It is a crying shame that in 2021, Jamaica is woefully short of an adequate fleet of garbage trucks. This is where the private sector can play a pivotal role. Imagine if some of Jamaica’s leading commercial/investment banks – including National Commercial Bank, Bank of Nova Scotia, Sagicor Bank, Proven Investments, Jamaica Money Market Brokers and First Global Bank – donated one truck each to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).

Imagine if some of Jamaica’s leading private sector companies – including GraceKennedy, Seprod, Lasco, Carib Cement, Digicel, FLOW, J. Wray and Nephew and National Bakery – donated one truck each to the NSWMA.

Imagine if some of Jamaica’s leading hotel companies – including Sandals Royal International, Spanish Court, Moon Palace and Riu – donated one truck each to the NSWMA.

If the aforementioned initiative was realised, the addition of new garbage trucks to the NSWMA’s current fleet would be significant and would go a long way in facilitating a more efficient and effective garbage collection system islandwide. This would result in a cleaner, healthier and more health-conscious Jamaica.
