Hopes for a better justice system
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Let us not give up on the justice system in becoming a better one in 2022. A justice system that will be fair and honest in all its dealings; and that the judges will listen to the people’s cry for justice.
We would really like to see a significant change in the Criminal Justice (Administration) Act; so that murderers and criminals will be punished severely, once and for all. Death penalty should be put in place, and criminals of violent crimes given maximum prison sentences or life imprisonment, including no parole and no bail.
A wrongdoer who is found with an illegal gun should be given 50 years in prison, if we are serious in our crime-fighting. We need to instil fear in criminals so they think twice before butchering people. Praedial larceny that leads to the murder of the owner or owners of the property: 50 years or life imprisonment for the killer or killers.
Finally, let us pause to remember all of those who didn’t live to see Christmas 2021 or the New Year and observe three days of mourning for the people who have been killed in Jamaica since the past three or four decades.
