Make Seaga, Merlene Ottey and Michael Holding national heroes
THE EDITOR, Madam:
This is a long definition of the meaning of a hero: A person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievement or noble qualities. “A war hero”: brave man, champion, man of courage, great man, man of the hour, conquering hero, victor, winner, conqueror, lionhearted, warrior, paladin, knight, superstar, megastar, star, celebrity, etc.
The Order of National Heroes has been a part of Jamaican culture. How about the United States and other countries? How do they classify their great men and women? If there were to be heroes or national heroes in the United States, the list should include these stalwarts: Muhammed Ali, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, Eric Liddell, in Chariots of Fire, and more.
I agree that Louise Bennett-Coverley and Bob Marley should become national heroes of Jamaica. The late, Edward Seaga should be one, too, for being brave and lionhearted. And our most decorated female athlete: Queen Merlene; and Michael Holding, one of Jamaica’s most famous cricketers; and for receiving the ‘Black Lives Matter Speech’ award. Holding made history in cricket. Take a look at his bowling, etc.
