What’s the update on the Grace McLean issue?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

It has been over two months since Grace McLean was sent on leave over the alleged financial irregularities at the Ministry of Education Youth and Information that happened during her time both as chief education officer and acting Permanent Secretary.

Indeed, her name was also front and centre during the Ruel Reid saga, where it was felt that she should have been relieved of her post then.

Yet, we still do not hear any updates on the Auditor General’s report recommending the Fraud Squad to conduct investigations.

Indeed, it seems that the Financial Investigations Division in the Ministry of Finance has gone quiet since Robin Sykes, its chief technical director, left.

I understand that when someone is accused of wrongdoing, they have to put up their best defence and present their side of the story. But it is also expected that the relevant authorities give regular updates on the said matters. Are we to believe that the web of deception created was so complex?

Is it that the accusations of financial misappropriation against the parties concerned will just go away and nothing is said or done about taxpayers monies ... just suh?

The honourable prime minister pontificates about better governance and less corruption while all this is happening under his nose.
