Readers’ reactions – Paulwell: Brace for more fare increases

Published:Friday | July 29, 2022 | 12:07 AM

With approximately 40 days before the start of the new school year in September, the Opposition People’s National Party is urging the Government to do more than lip service to cushion the effects of surging prices on gasoline, and ease the pain and pressure on Jamaicans.

But gas price is increasing every day in Europe. Jamaica does not produce gas so what do you expect. – @Oneil Dennis

Very true. Over 27,000 children were absent last term and there are ways the government can prevent gas prices to be lessened. [This] would result in decreased electricity bills and taxi fares and even in buying food as transportation would cost less, we need to get these children back in school and this is one answer. – @Kavel Whyte

Goodness gracious me. My sister, a single parent, gives her 13-year-old daughter $1,500 everyday to go to school. How [are] poor people [to] manage. This is too much. – @Patrica Robinson

The gas and the crime coupled with inflation coming lakka death sentence. – @Richie Honegan

Goh mek JPS and NWC tek off the late payment charges off wi bills bcuz three fourths of Jamaicans cannot pay their bills on time due to when we get paid. So when yuh plan up wid dem unnu know it’s a win win. Unnu nuh care one red [cent] fi wi. Suh stop pretending bcuz when yuh an yuh party inna power unnu neva care needa. Si unnu mek toll a raise every summer especially fi Portmore people dem affi a pay toll jus fi step outa dem back door. – @Heaven Madden

Last time them says 15 per cent fare increase to move the $100 to $115 which was rounded off to $120 . Yet we ended up with 50 per cent increase paying $150. @jay_flex876

Why the politicians pay phone bill and incentives can’t cut and uno sa uno a represent the people, yet still uno a stress we straight with cuts and increases and nothing fi uno na cut. – @tweetjodymack

So whole on deh, fare increase to $120 and currently everyone collecting $150 so this increase brings it to how much? Yes gas prices high, however wages are still the same. How can a minimum wage worker even manage? – @ja_piscean
