What’s the point of insurance?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Nine months ago, my vehicle was involved in accident. My vehicle was parked outside the hardware store waiting for it to open. When it opened, the truck in front of me started and proceeded to reverse into the front of my vehicle.
It seemed like an open-and-shut case. We exchanged documents and I took photos of both vehicles. I made a report at the police station and submitted my claim.
Nine months later I am no closer to settling my claim, as the insurance company is saying the other driver did not report the accident.
If after almost a year the other driver has not reported the accident, he obviously has no intention of doing so. I had taken photos at the scene, including the documents and driver’s licence of the other driver.
To date, all I am getting from the insurance company is that they are still waiting on the other driver to make a report.
This can’t be right. Such behaviour from insurance companies is an injustice to us, the insurers. What, then, is the point of having insurance?
How does one get a situation like this resolved?
