Zip FM needs to do better
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The events that took place on Monday, November 14 should go down as of one of the most civil disobedient tragedies in Jamaica’s history. That day taxi drivers attempted to hijack civility with rampant disregard for law and order.
One such incident was caught on video. A man with a piece of board in hand was threatening female passengers to exit a taxi, which apparently was not lawful behaviour. But, two days later, one of Jamaica’s leading radio stations, Zip 103 FM, not only interviewed, but presented this said deviant with a gift, a piece of board wrapped with a ribbon attached.
This was a most disrespectful act, as I’m sure those ladies, some whom looked elderly, were certainly traumatised. They definitely would not have found this poor attempt of humour by this man by any means funny.
We cry out each day about the indiscipline and violence in this country, but a lot of Jamaicans, including Zip FM jocks, seem to have ‘fake rage’. They cry out and are angry for victims they know who suffer at the hands of thugs. But in this case, they turned a blind eye and rewarded this person who threatened people in public.
Zip FM needs to do better than this – they owe these women an apology.
C.P.
