Ja needs to stand firm against moves to undermine our values
THE EDITOR, Madam:
The news that Barbados has lost its buggery law is highly regrettable for that country. This ruling by the Barbadian Court means that Barbados, like other countries which have lost this type of law, has lost a source of knowledge. The buggery law teaches citizens that sexual activity ought to be between males and females only – anything else is unnatural. We take it for granted that people will always have their own knowledge of what is right versus what is wrong – not so. Knowledge can be lost over generations.
So what happens in a country after these laws are discarded? It means anal penetration and other types of sexual activity between persons of the same sex will be regarded as normal sexual activity. With the social and legal blurring of the distinction between the sexes, transgenderism is almost certain to gather new force. Buggery laws provide a foundational philosophy for true marriage so with this law now gone Watch also for attempts to make sexual orientation and gender identity (sogi) grounds for non-discrimination. This type of legislation in other countries has wreaked havoc resulting inter alia in loss of parental control, curtailing of freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of conscience.
We in Jamaica need to stand firm even as certain actors local and overseas are moving to undermine our values. When a society moves away from the biological design of the Creator and legitimises sexual perversion, the outcome is sure to end in confusion for children, pushing them into dangerous lifestyles. We need to continually affirm our biblical source of knowledge, ‘male and female He created them’. (Genesis 1: 27).
