Bumpy start to Christmas payday rollout

This has been very untidy. The last-minute unclear advisories is unhealthy. This exercise is meant to bring order to public sector compensation. So far all indications are that it is more uneven than ever. Some contract supervisors on verge of getting less than the people they supervise. – @WayneCJam

Giving public sector workers a big December salary cheque was always the goal. That would generate nuff feel good political dividends, right in the middle of the festive season! But should a totally new & complicated payment system be initially rolled out at Christmas time? NO! – @Zemi66

Many Jamaican teachers are still waiting on their summer school and extra lessons payments. Contract workers will not be getting the $100,000 advance and so forth. A repeat of last year. – @ladypetrona

All I got as a teacher was my dead salary. There was no additional sum to it. Maybe the rollout doesn’t involve teachers and that should have been stated. – @JackJacstrap

Where is the same energy they had when they were promoting the compensation package? The way they made it look like a great move, everything should be in place. If you can’t manage, give someone else the job. – Hakim No Nonsense Thomas

If they don’t see workers showing up for work until they get paid they can’t blame them. Many live pay cheque to pay cheque. A lot have used what they had to prepare for the holidays just to avoid the rush. They must have known before payday that this will happen. Issues of controversy impacting the public sector transformation, especially that relating to salaries, ought to be squarely laid at the feet of ineffective leadership of workers across agencies. The tendencies to place blame elsewhere amounts to failure of those ‘leaders’ ability to grasp the fundamentals of true representation. Matters now dogging the process could/should have been resolved long before the month of December. – Fitz Mattis
