Why is Uganda being punished by America?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Jamaica is in a unique position to stand up for the truth. Some might think that we are small and do not carry a lot of weight in world’s affairs. We are small, but well-respected for our achievements internationally. As a nation that have a healthy reverence for God, we have lived our lives accordingly.

There is a lot of hypocrisy in our world today and if we do not take a stand we will be guilty by staying on the fence. It was Martin Niemöller who wrote, “First they came for the socialist and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the Jew and I did not speak up because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me and then there was no one left to speak for me.” It seems like the Biden administration wants to punish our brothers and sisters in Uganda by threatening to impose economic sanctions, for the stand they took as a sovereign state to enact harsh anti-gay laws.

Why is the Biden administration not going after their friends in the Middle East where there are even harsher laws against LGBQT+? The answer is pretty obvious, Uganda is a poor black country in Africa, but the Middle Eastern countries are awash with revenue and oil, so America can’t afford to confront them. They can hurt the United States’ economy by stop pumping oil.

We cannot allow them to bully our friends into submitting to their in-your-face devious lifestyle. If America wants to have Pride Month, they can by all means.

We should not bow to their immoral situation because it is not of God. We must stand for truth and righteousness because that’s the only way we can avoid the decaying of the world around us.
