Why aren’t ATM machines ready for new banknotes?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I recently went to an ATM and was shocked to see notice plastered on the machines that the new banknotes cannot be deposited. There are many questions that come to mind.

I would like to know who is responsible for this delay? Where is the public apology and compensation to the people of Jamaica on this matter? What of the impact on small business persons in the delay due to limited access to deposit mechanisms?

When exactly will all ATMs be retrofitted to accept deposits of the new banknotes? This process is a major capital expense.

Also, which banks are actually ready and have ATMs that accept the new banknotes for deposit? Why weren’t steps taken to make these machines ready? Why did this happen after such an extensive communications campaign?

Just how will the trust of the people regarding their money be regained?
