A call to redemption
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Is there a young pastor today who can set aside his church’s needs a few hours a week for the good of the nation? Well, of course there is; Jamaica is a land of churches. A young pastor once shared a story about a man, some 2,000 years ago, who called 12 to be disciples of his brand, spread the world of his Father’s promise of eternal life, of his plan to offer the world salvation. It was quite a story, one that lives today all around the world.
That same son of God still calls you; look around you, look beyond the pews and chairs of your buildings; look at the torment that all too many of even Jamaica’s greatest men and women are suffering without the Lord’s guidance and your help. Out there today there are certainly those whose lives have been corrupted by the love of power and wealth. Though many contribute to all manner of charity as if that would free them from their guilt and sin, it is not enough. Who is it, I ask you, who will minister to the corrupt?
Young Jamaican pastors, unite in private and plan your crusades.
Your examples can change the world; your love for your fellow man must reach beyond the pulpit to the hearts of all those who have strayed from the path of righteousness. Your task is to free these men and women’s souls, one by one, from the burden that the false prophets of fame and fortune have set upon them. There is greater strength in your numbers. I see private conferences, three or four pastors privately confronting the corrupt, one by one – they know who they are – and ask them, pray for them, beseech them to redeem themselves, to turn their actions to those that benefit their fellow man instead of themselves.
I see a wave of honesty sweep over Jamaica and a greater blessing for all its inhabitants and when enough of these poor souls have turned to faith and love, you will have guided your nation to become one the whole world will see where the greatness and power of faith rise together, rise above all others ... a land where honest souls are free to love the truth of their lives and cherish in utmost humility the wondrous blessing their Lord has given them, the land of wood and water, their Jamaica.
