Deafening silence on rising crime

Published:Tuesday | October 31, 2023 | 12:05 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

As an expatriate living in Canada, I am stunned at the unprecedented increase in the crime rate. This heightened my concern on reading about the vicious murder of the businessman in Clarendon. This hits close to home. He had a thriving Jamaican restaurant serving the community blocks away from my residence. A warm, friendly and welcoming owner. Unfortunately, he has lost his life.

Here is my question. Where are the Church leaders? Where are the rallies in Half-Way Tree condemning the violence? It’s as if these leaders can only convene and marshal crowds for one topic. The silence is deafening.

I gather it’s true that “Duppy know who fi frighten”.
