Display maturity during election campaign
THE EDITOR, Madam:
The local government elections are upon us. Who will win the hearts and minds of the masses, we will know on the night of February 26.
The strong democratic process and belief in democracy by the people are on display. The major political parties have ramped up their campaigns; the trumpet has sounded and the bells are ringing.
On the night of the election, Andrew Holness and Mark Golding will begin to assess the results to decipher and determine the message that was sent to them by the people.
The Mark Golding-led People’s National Party has managed to claw its way out of the political doldrum that it was in after the 2020 massive defeat.
The Jamaica Labour Party, after postponing the local elections for a while, will, on the night, know how satisfied or dissatisfied the base of Jamaica’s electorate is in the way the Government has managed the country in the last few years.
For the days remaining to the elections, the exuberance of the candidates and enthusiasm of the electorate should display maturity in Jamaica’s democratic process – no violence, no hatred, just positive energy.
As Bob Marley said: ‘One Love’, ‘Smile Jamaica’.
