Have people become immune to noise pollution

Published:Monday | March 11, 2024 | 12:06 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I have been visiting Jamaica since 1981 and have had over a dozen visits to many areas of your beautiful country. Ocho Rios has been the area of choice since 2019, adjacent to Mahogany Beach.

I am from Canada and it’s always nice to meet old friends in the Ochi area. But for the last two years an ugly problem has surfaced with loud music, starting at around 8 p.m., that interrupts our sleep. One late-night bar has a licence to operate till 4 a.m. The loud bass music reverberates down to our it is condos and continues throughout the night.

We have called the police seven times, and only one night that they turned the music down since our arrival on March 2. We will not be returning to this location ever again, and looking forward to our return home in early April.

This loud music being allowed to be played throughout the night is so wrong. I suppose the locals are immune to this noise pollution.
