A YOUNG QUEEN - YEAR: 1979
Vere Technical's champion sprinter
Merlene Ottey shows her two medals won at the 1979 Pan-American Games in
Puerto Rico to Mike Fennell, president of the Jamaica Olympic
Association. Just out of school, Ottey won a bronze medal in the women's
200 metres, clocking 22.79 seconds. She then anchored the Jamaica team
to a silver medal in the 4x100 metres.
