SAJ 75th anniversary
The ballroom of the Jamaica Pegasus was the preferred venue for the Shipping Association of Jamaica's (SAJ) 75th anniversary gala and awards ceremony.
With representatives of the General Council of the Shipping Association from Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, Guyana, Barbados, the United States and Puerto Rico, the diamond anniversary of the SAJ was truly a momentous one.
In welcoming guests, president Kim Clarke paused briefly in tribute to the industry's stalwarts who have recently passed - past president of the SAJ, Francis 'Paco' Kennedy, and Cleve Lanaman, former managing director of Lasocean Agencies. In addition, he highlighted the invaluable contribution of the three former leaders being honoured, Messrs Geoffrey Collyer, Robert Bell and Paul Scott.
Following dinner and entertainment by Dwight Richards and Friends, guest speaker, Christopher Zacca made light of the current chikungunya outbreak affecting the nation's productivity.
As the evening came to an end, two surprise presentations were made. Robert Bell was
serenaded for his birthday and an original French bond of 1889 was gifted to the SAJ from
representatives of Panama.
The night was a great way to celebrate 75 years.
