Sheryl Lee Ralph debuts Brandon Blackwood gown for Emmys
Noted actress Sheryl Lee Ralph hit the gold carpet for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday in a Brandon Blackwood gown and crystal trunk handbag.
It was an evening of firsts for Ralph, who won her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the role of Barbara Howard in Abbott Elementary.
Styled by Roberto Johnson in a snug black velvet strapless gown with a vibrant orange underside, slit to her upper thigh and dramatic train, Ralph teamed up with Blackwood, who is also of Jamaican heritage, for the look.
She showed off her stunning figure in the first gown ever made by the handbag designer, whose purses have taken the fashion world by storm.
In an interview with AP, Ralph shared that the collaboration came about quite quickly.
"A designer gave my co-star and me the same sketch for the same gown," she said, having discovered it on set when Lisa Ann Walter showed Ralph what she was wearing to the awards. "Up until five days ago, I had no gown, so Brandon Blackwood stepped up. He was in Japan and started rendering the gown on his Pacific flight," Ralph said.
An overjoyed Blackwood thanked Ralph for allowing him and his team to create her dress for the Emmys.
"We made our first gown ever for an absolute ICON!" posted Brandon Blackwood New York on Instagram, adding that it was a big move for the brand.
"A BB gown and bag on the Emmy Carpet #Major," said the post.
