On any given day, Trayceann Henry powers through as an event administrator and accounting officer. But the moment it’s time for her to unwind, she is ready to step out in a coordinated style.

She tells Living, “Fashion for me is so liberating. It’s my sweet escape.” While this is her current stylish standpoint, Henry must admit that her views on fashion and closet now are a far cry from what she had growing up. “Truth be told, I didn’t really have a passion for fashion. I was a tomboy when I was younger and I really didn’t pay much attention to style.”

She did recall becoming curious about clothes after seeing her older cousin setting a standard and expressing her unwavering love for trends. “My older cousin who was in high school when I was in kindergarten loved dressing up. She would spend a lot of time sewing us matching outfits and I was like a little doll for her. I do remember enjoying those moments with her.” But this interest in following trends developed much later, thanks to outside influences.

As someone who now takes great pride in her appearance, Henry is no longer shy about turning heads at events. Strutting in bold, vibrant, unique, elevated and elegant threads, she doesn’t subscribe to the status quo as far as styles are concerned. “I’m all about creating a vibe based on what I find comfortable. I love pastels and earth tones, as I believe those hues complement me well. But I don’t have a favourite brand. I just shop; I see it, I like it and I buy it,” she said with a laugh, adding, “You can catch me in a Ross outfit today and tomorrow, I’m rocking Zara.”

She does admit, however, to having an affinity for sundresses. “I love the versatility of sundresses. They can go with some comfortable flats and simple jewellery. Or they can be spruced up with a pair of wedges or heels, adding some statement accessories and bam! Formal wear activated. You can even throw on some sneakers with these dresses if you’re a ‘kicks’ girl like I am.”

This mother of one is also a fan of maxi dresses, sets, baggy jeans or boyfriend jeans, rompers and sneakers; all of which are currently trending in her closet.

What continues to catch her off guard and blow her away are the compliments she receives from friends and strangers about her exciting looks. “I’ve been approached and asked to be a personal shopper on many occasions. And to date, I’m still baffled by this. I don’t think I’ve really started a journey in fashion, but it’s something worth considering.”

Having celebrity fashion icons like the late singer and model Aaliyah, as well as R&B group TLC growing up, her influence has evolved to that of entertainer and beauty and fashion mogul, Rihanna, “I feel Rihanna matches my kind of vibe,” she shared.

With her, image is everything, and it is very on-brand in her line of work. So if you are looking to find your style and you are not sure where to start, Henry advises that you try new things to see what best suits you, “Feel free to experiment and take a few risks. You won’t know what really works for you without trying different styles or looks.”
